The Kardashians SAG Nominations Are Here!

Damn my DVR! TNT was airing Miss Regina King, perpetual best friend, Miss Judy Greer, and <swoon> SAG president, Ken Howard, announcing the nominees for the 18th Annual Screen Actor's Guild Awards and I only got to see the nominees in the TV Miniseries/Movie before it cut off! Oh, well. At least I have the Golden Globe Nominees tomorrow. Don't let me down, DVR! Anywho, enough about my problems. Let's get to the nominees! Surprises are in store:

Who's Missing: Well, for one thing, all of the actors from the nominated films. Thanks to Nathaiel over at The Film Experience for pointing this out. Where are all the great actors from the ensemble of Midnight In Paris? Corey Stoll is the only performance from that film that anyone talked about. Yet, somehow French First Lady, Carla Bruni, made the cut? Other great ensemble casts that could have made the cut: Drive, Win Win, Rampart, New Year's Eve...

Thoughts: All in all, a pleasing list. All the films have a good mix of comedy and drama in them. Sometimes I think those actors confuse this category with Best Picture and not what it actually is. The only film I wouldn't exactly consider an ensemble is The Artist. The film is pretty much just Dujardin, Bejo, and, of course, Uggie the dog. But, it's probably my favorite movie that I've seen so far this year. So, I'll let it pass.

Who's Missing: Michael Fasssbender Shame, Gary Oldman Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Woody Harrelson Rampart

Thoughts: Leonardo DiCaprio? How did you get here? Just when it looked like he was out of the race...I'm a little confused how he got a nomination over Fassbender. I guess the SAG members aren't as in love with Fassy as the the rest of the internet is. It looks like George and Brad are going to be the one's to beat. And Dujardin is pretty much a lock for an Oscar nomination. But what to make of Bichir? I haven't seen A Better Life and most people have only mentioned him in passing. This nomination could rise his profile but I feel like he'll have a long way to go to get an Oscar nom. It kinda feels very Richard Jenkins in The Visitor.

Thoughts: Well, it's obvious that Close, Davis, Streep, and Williams are all locks for Oscar noms. That fifth slot really is up for grabs. Any of these ladies could get it. Everyone is saying that Davis is gonna win, but Streep, Swinton, and Williams have all been splitting critics' prizes. We have a real race on our hands. Close is a double SAG nominee this year in film and television.

Thoughts: I hope Christopher Plummer is working on that Oscar speech because he is so winning this year. I don't really get this category this year. It's all over the place and a little boring. And Jonah Hill? What? I can not handle if he gets an Oscar nomination. He just bothers me so much. I'm a little surprised about Armie Hammer's nom. Isn't that movie DOA? His performance (when he's young) was really the only performance that brought a little life to the film. So, good for him?

Thoughts: Is Melissa McCarthy gonna get an Oscar nomination for Bridesmaids?!? I have mixed feelings. She was hilarious in the movie. But, why is everyone deciding to get behind a comedic performance all of a sudden? What about all the great comedic work over the years that were ignored? Wasn't her Emmy win enough? I'm kinda glad Woodley was left off. I just don't get why everyone is in love with her in that movie. She's not bad, but anyone could have given that performance. And for the love of GOD, why isn't Carey Mulligan getting any love for Shame?
